The Ghana Institution of Surveyors expresses condolences after the national tragedy.

The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight distinguished officials. These individuals were on a critical mission to launch a national programme aimed at combating illegal mining (galamsey), a noble initiative central to the protection of our environment and national resources, which remains at the core of our professional commitment.

GhIS Extends Condolences and Commends National Response

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and the entire nation. In this time of profound grief, the GhIS stands in full solidarity with the families of the deceased, and all affected by this tragic loss. We honour the selfless dedication and patriotism of the officials who perished while in active service to the nation. We commend the directive by His Excellency the President of the Republic to observe three days of national mourning, beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025. The suspension of all official engagements for the remainder of the week is a powerful testament to the nation’s collective respect and mourning for these fallen heroes.

As a professional body with a shared interest in sustainable national development, we affirm our continued commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible land use, principles that guided the work of the departed. We pray for the peaceful repose of their souls and for strength, comfort, and healing for their families and colleagues during this challenging time.

Signed,
President
